GP Legislation Acts

GP Print was awarded the contract for printing and distributing all legislation and Parliamentary publications in 1990. The award was largely due to the privatization of the Government Printing Office. The Legislation Collection Online is available through GP and includes a number of important law and legislative databases. Materials include all acts of Parliament that have been fully or partially in force since 1837, all regulations dating back to 1989, bills dating to 1990, Supplementary Order Papers from 1995, and archives of the Hansard legal database.

The term “bill” in this context refers to a legislative proposal made to the House of Representatives. If it passes through all stages of the Parliamentary process, it may become an law upon signing by the Governor General.

The GP Legislation/Legislation Direct database contains all the Bills as they were presented before the House of Representatives in the first, second and third readings. The database also contains any Supplementary Order Papers which may have altered the Bills, and all Acts including amending Acts. New Zealand law and statutes may be browsed for free.
