Hansard Legal Database

The Hansard legal database contains weekly transcripts of debates in the New Zealand House of Representatives. The database also contains daily transcripts of written and oral questions submitted to ministers and members of the House. Documents are included in the database as they are released from the Office of the Clerk.

The Hansard database is available for public access free of charge. Access to the Written Questions and Oral Questions databases is also available to the public at no cost. Fee based legal searches may be performed using Verity Topic. Please contact our public relations office for further information regarding free access.

A number of other sources of free statutory law are available online. We are compiling an index of law related resources for the benefit of subscribers and the general public. The primary focus will center on law schools, official government sources of legislation, and commercial entitles that provide free, high quality content.

While the index will not be limited based on geography, the law of New Zealand and other Commonwealth countries are of primary importance. Other common law countries including the United States and Great Britain will also be represented.
